Sleeping Soundly

Sleeping Peacefully The most recent scientific discoveries for solving the epidemic insomnia problem in America is not a new medication, but instead something as simple as warm hands and feet.

Recent news reports on the use of biofeedback to warm hands or feet at night to promote sound sleep emphasize that simply sleeping in gloves or socks is NOT the trick - the warmth needs to be generated from within the body.

The classic naturopathic Warming Sock treatment does just that. The treatment draws circulation to the periphery - away from the core of the body - mimicking what naturally happens when it is time for the body to sleep.

Follow the link below for instructions on this simple, effective home treatment for a good night's sleep without medication.

Teas For Sleep
  Tension Release Tea

Another great way to promote a good nights sleep is with herbs that help the body to unwind by relaxing muscles and soothing the nerves. The Art of Health Tension Release tea does just that.

This tea is the personal favorite of The Art of Health's founder and tea formulator, Dr. Laura Washington.

Information on Dr. Washington's Naturopathic Practice

A Note from
Dr. Washington

I am always pleased when the "latest scientific discoveries" support the simple natural treatments that have long been recommended by naturopathic physicians. This is the case with the latest scientific studies on sleep (see article to left).

Each person's sleep issues are unique and not every approach works for everyone so in this months Art of Health bulletin we offer a couple of natural approaches for a good night's sleep.

If simple safe home treatments such as the ones offered here don't work for you - don't give up! Usually there is some unique issue that needs to be discovered and addressed. Finding these underlying causes of impaired health is the specialty of naturopathic physicians.

If you need help, I encourage you to schedule an individual consultation with me or use the link below to find a naturopathic physician near you.

Sleep well & live well,

Laura Washington, ND
