These invigorating herbs are warming and uplifting - just what's needed on a gray day. In ancient lore, the ingredients St. John's Wort and Calendula were referred to as "magical" plants in which people saw the sun's power to banish darkness. This is in keeping with today's scientific data supporting the use of St John's Wort in the treatment of mild to moderate depression.
Ingredients: St. John's Wort, Ginkgo, Ginger, Lemon grass, Calendula flower, Lemon balm, Red clover.

St. John's Wort - Internally St. John's wort is used as a diuretic for gout and arthritis (eliminates waste from the body) and to calm the nervous system and treat mild to moderate depression, ideal for anxiety and irritability, especially during PMS and menopause. Note: St. John's Wort may interfere with the function of certain medications including anti-depressants, anti-HIV drugs, and birth control pills. See Safety and Legal Notes.

Red clover - One of the great blood cleansers, and purifiers, Red Clover has been used as a nervine for headaches, upset stomachs, and muscle tension. It is high in chromium, calcium, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, and potassium. Its anti-coagulant effect may be contra-indicated if the blood does not clot easily, and before and after surgery.

Calendula - Calendula is believed to be under the astrological influence of the sun. The body part ruled by the sun is the heart, so ailments of the heart and circulatory system were often treated with Calendula. Culpepper suggests taking Calendula to "strengthen the heart." A calendula broth was believed to comfort the heart and spirits. Internally calendula is also used for inflamed nodes and sluggish digestion.

Ginger - Alleviates nausea, is a circulatory stimulant, and relaxes peripheral blood vessels. It is warming, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, has cholesterol lowering effects, and relieves motion sickness.

Lemon Grass - Provides a soothing lemony flavor. Lemon grass is calming and soothing to the nerves and relieves an upset stomach.

Ginkgo - Ginkgo improves blood flow to the brain & other tissues and speeds up cellular metabolism. It is also an antioxidant - decreasing cellular damage caused by free radicals. Most illnesses relieved by ginkgo are associated with old age, a time of life when both blood flow and cellular metabolism deteriorate.
